BACKGROUND

President of Nutrition In Motion PC, Cristina Rivera is a Registered Dietitian as well as a Board Certified Sports Nutritionist.  Her clinical work at NYU Hospital of Joint Diseases, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, as well as Bellevue Hospital has given her a diverse and skilled background in medical nutrition therapy.

As a certified specialist in sports dietetics, Cristina has worked with various college and high school sports teams to design specific meal plans for athletes during training season and competition days as well as for the off season.  In addition, she has served as a consulting Sports Nutritionist for the New York University athletic department and currently consults for the Coca-Cola Company.  Cristina has been featured in Shape Magazine, Seventeen Magazine, Time Magazine, Women’s Running Magazine, Women’s Day, and on NBC and ESPN.com.

Cristina’s philosophy of using food to fuel one’s body for peak performance is not only what she preaches to clients, but practices herself on a daily basis.  As a trained dancer for over fifteen years, Cristina is currently an active marathon runner and a recreational boxer.  Cristina works with clients to gain an understanding of how what one puts into their body effects both physical and mental well being.  Through the use of behavior modification in conjunction with nutrition counseling, clients make attainable and enduring lifestyle changes.

Cristina holds a bachelor of science degree in clinical psychology and completed a masters of science degree in clinical nutrition from New York University.  Her dietetic internship was completed through the NYU Medical Center program, including clinical rounds at NYU Hospital of Joint Diseases and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.  As an active member of the American Dietetic Association and the Collegiate & Professional Sports Dietitian Association, Cristina remains current in the field of nutrition.

Cristina is a Registered Dietitian (RD) and a New York State certified Dietitian-Nutritionist (CDN).  A Registered Dietitian is the only health care provider authorized by the Commission on Dietetic Registration to practice medical nutrition therapy.  Individuals who hold the RD credential have completed a supervised practice program, have passed a national exam, and maintain continuing education requirements for recertification.

In addition to her RD credential, Cristina is board certified as a Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD), which is the premier sports nutrition professional certification.  This credential is reserved for Registered Dietitians who have completed a minimum of 1,500 hours of experience in the field of sports nutrition and have passed a board certification exam.  CSSD-certified professionals possess unique knowledge and skills for applying evidence based nutrition services to athletes and active individuals.  The majority of sports nutritionists who work with collegiate, professional, and olympic teams hold the CSSD credential.
